Health Magazine shares their list of 8 whole grains (many of them ancient) worth trying. Why whole grains?
Whole grains are white hot among chefs and nutritionists. They’re versatile, satisfying, and in addition to providing slow-burning starch (think sustained energy!), vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, whole grains are health protective. Their consumption is tied to a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and obesity (yes, a lower risk of obesity).
The list covers a range of grains, the first 6 are black rice, kaniwa, sorghum, teff, buckwheat, and millet, and are gluten-free. The other two, rich in fibres and regulators for cholesterol, are rye and barley. Whether ancient or new, these grains are sure to diversify your diet and make your lifestyle healthier!
